Occasion is now in the alumni column! Congratulations to Occasion, the first company to move out (or should we say grow out?) of Catapult in 2017.
Occasion is a scheduling-based e-commerce platform founded in 2013 by Aksh Gupta, Pelle ten Cate and Kieran Klaasen (we love their “met through Airbnb” founding story). The Occasion online calendar solution helps small businesses seamlessly take bookings, promote their business, and manage operations across all channels.
“The entire Occasion team will miss Catapult - the community, the space and the views,” said Aksh Gupta. “Catapult is truly a hidden gem for tech companies in Chicago. Catapult was an amazing home for Occasion for 2+ years during the most critical period of our growth as a company. For other founders, considering office space I will pass on the advice I got from Craig Vodnik [Cleverbridge cofounder and Catapult mentor]: 'You need to focus on your business, keep your heads down and grow. There's no better space than Catapult to enable that for you.'”
And grow they did. During their tenure at Catapult, Occasion more than doubled their head count and expanded their reach exponentially. The Occasion platform is now used in thousands of locations in 32 countries. They grew their customer base by expanding direct channels, and adding white-label channel partners. They completed over 300,000 bookings and processed $15M in sales. They raised a total of $1.4M, to expand their team and increase their reach to small businesses.
“Occasion exemplifies the best of Catapult and we will miss them,” said April Lane, Catapult’s Executive Director. “They are a hardworking team, putting everything they have into their company. At the same time, they are model community members - participating in all events and sharing insights with the other companies. They are also a lot of fun.”
On behalf of all of us at Catapult, we thank Aksh and the entire Occasion team for all that they have contributed to our community and wish them the continued growth and success. Lucky for us - once a Catapult company, always a Catapult company - and we look forward to their involvement in our community as an alumni.
